A Video Look at Fabricating Compact Surfaces

Posted on 23 December 2016 by cradmin

This video, produced and offered by Neolith by TheSize, takes a relatively deep look at fabricating ultra-compact/compact surfaces. It discusses the types of equipment that can be used, as well as the blades and tooling required. This information includes CNC machining, waterjet cutting and even the use of hand tools, addressing both wet and dry cutting. It also touches on adhesive qualities needed for installation (including interior versus exterior applications).

It also explains the cutting speeds (both feed speeds and RPM for blades) allowed for different types of cuts and equipment. It discusses making relief cuts when necessary. Support systems for use when cutting or performing other tasks are also touched upon, as well as material handling methods.

Other areas examined are finishing, polishing, edging, sink cut-outs and mounting, among other things.

Of course, the video is specifically referencing the Neolith compact surface product, but the information should be in the ball park for other materials, although manufacturer recommendations should certainly be followed in all cases.

TheSize to Launch New Additions to Neolith Collections at KBIS 2017

Taj Mahal

Castellón, Spain manufacturer of sintered compact surface brand Neolith, TheSize, plans to expand its range of premium surfaces with new product launches at the 2017 Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS), in Orlando, Fla.

Among the new surfaces being introduced are:

Taj Mahal (Classtone Collection), is representative of the multidimensional Indian Quatzite. With light cream as its backdrop and a combination of clear flakes to emulate the natural crystallization of multiple pink quartz layers, it embodies natural quartzite; to enhance the design further, the fine integration of subtle brown and grey veins add just enough diversity, while still keeping it in the neutral color family. Slabs are in a polished finish and 12mm thickness.

Blanco Carrara (Classtone Collection), has been designed after studying dozens of natural Carrara marbles found in Italy. Two versions will be on offer; one a more subtle portrayal of the veining and the other, a prominent, high-contrast version. Blanco Carrara is available in two thicknesses, 6mm and 12mm, and in two finishes, polished and antique.

Nero Marquina (Classtone Collection), is inspired by marble from Spain and features bright white veining on a pure black backdrop through an exclusive technique to achieve the stark contrast and distinct fine lines. Available in Polished and Silk finishes and in 6mm and 12mm thicknesses.

Zaha Stone (Fusion Collection) offers a contemporary twist on Iranian Gray Stone, incorporating a richer, industrial grey tone, with white veins etched onto the backdrop in contradicting directions. It also pays tribute to the late Zaha Hadid, a true inspiration to the architectural community. Available in 6mm and 12mm and in Antique finish, the Persian inspired stone is the statement piece of these new introductions.

Concrete Taupe (Fusion Collection) differentiates itself from its predecessor Beton with an all over brown wash of color and warmer tone. The décor suggests that a natural rusting has occurred but with the addition of micro flakes to add the slightest sparkle. It is available in 6mm.

Aspen Grey (Fusion Collection) offers a dark grey matte inspired by natural Aspen stone. With countless micro elements scattered throughout, the slab suggests movement with a sense of ornateness and character. Aligned with the same Neolith Digital Design (NDD) technology used to develop its Pierre Bleue décor, Aspen Grey’s color is present through the entirety of the slab. Available in 6mm and 12mm in soft-touch silk.

TheSize Announces Third Annual Neolith International Design Competition

Posted on 21 September 2016 by CRadmin3

neolithTheSize, manufacturer of sintered compact surface brand Neolith, announced its third annual international design competition. This global competition highlights creativity and innovation of designs incorporating Neolith surfacing by architects, interior designers, builders, remodelers, students, and for the first time, fabricators.

For each of the three categories, judges will focus on the proposal originality, presentation creativity, technical complexity, variety of Neolith applications, quality before-and-after images and the degree of environmental sensitivity in the project.

My Neolith Project – Large Residential Spaces

“My Neolith Project” targets design professionals that have recently developed a major residential project incorporating Neolith in multiple applications, such as façades, flooring, cladding, kitchens, bathrooms, furniture, swimming pools and more. To be eligible, the project must have been completed between 2012 and 2016.

Neolith New Talents – Tiny Houses, Great Living Experiences

This year’s “Neolith New Talents” is targeting architecture and interior design students enrolled in at least one class between 2015 and 2017. Neolith is challenging participants to design a two-story urban micro-apartment, no larger than 538 sq. ft., that includes an outdoor terrace. The micro-apartment must integrate Neolith in multiple spaces and applications, such as kitchen, bathroom, flooring, cladding, exterior façade and more.

Projects must have high-design, without compromising functionality or lifestyle. Versatile materials are key, as well as modular furniture and open and-multi-purpose spaces.

This year for first time, TheSize will include a Top Fabricator of the Year category as part of the International Design competition. This new category will recognize the most meticulous and labor-intensive projects made by fabricators with Neolith slabs.

Projects will be evaluated as “small great pieces of art” that are technically complicated and require outstanding knowledge, ingenuity and the skills to produce them. To participate, projects must be completed between 2012 and 2016, outside of Spain.

The competition entry period will end on December 2, 2016. Winners will be announced on December 20, 2016. The prizes include an all-inclusive trip to a prominent industry tradeshow and are valued anywhere from $1,650 to $5,500. Additional Options Available for Neolith Sintered Compact Surface

Posted on 15 August 2014 by cradmin

Neolith Timber sintered compact surfaceNeolith Sintered Compact Surface, manufactured by Spanish company TheSize, is available in 14 full-body Colors in addition to 20 digital designs, as well as new sizes. The 14 full-body colors carry the color and pattern through the entire thickness of the slab. These colors range from bright yellow, green and blue, to deep browns and stone-inspired greys. Full-body colors allow for thin countertops with no need for mitering. For professionals looking for ornate detail, slabs created with digital designs uses technology that prints intricate designs onto the Neolith product, with design options ranging from the industrial shine of the Iron collection to the detailed wood-grain design of Timber 9pictured here). This technology was also used for the newly released Classtone collection, which has a realistic look of marble.

In addition to the color options, the material has a new format size of 125 in. by 59 in. and a thickness of 1/2 in. The new sizes are in addition to the original sizes of 144 in. by 48 in. and thicknesses of 1/8 in. and 3/16 in. The new format and thickness is created through TheSize’s proprietary Sinterization technology that exposes minerals and other raw materials to extremely high pressure and temperature (more 2,200 degrees Fahrenheit), resembling the way natural stones are created over thousands of years, in just hours. The process gives the product outstanding physical and mechanical properties in terms of compaction, resistance and durability. The upgraded Sinterization technology is made possible through a recent expansion of the company’s production facilities. A second line allows for segmentation of specific formats and thicknesses, improving efficiencies and tripling the yearly production capacity, resulting in increased productivity shorter lead times.
