Performance of Laminam Ceramic Compact Surface

Posted on 17 January 2017 by cradmin

While this video, produced by Laminam, starts off looking like a commercial for a restaurant with a chef making pasta and such, it soon becomes apparent it is a demonstration of how the company’s ceramic compact material performs under heavy use conditions. The material is subject to cutting and chopping, oil and acidic materials poured directly on it, liquids that are commonly known to stain, etc. After this, it is simply wiped clean and appears to have no damage.

Laminam is along the lines of Dekton or Neolith compact materials, but it has been said it is “tension free” meaning no relief cuts need be made in it when fabricating.

We’d love to hear your experiences using this product. Post a response to this video below or drop us a line.

Tenax Offers Mastidek Cartridge Glue for Cosentino Dekton

Posted on 15 August 2016 by cradmin

TenaxMastidek offered by Tenax is a new generation bi-component resin used to glue Dekton. Dekton Mastidek Fast Outdoor Cartridge glue has a very high adhesion in a short amount of time, which allows for cutting and polishing the assembled parts in approximately 45 to 60 minutes. The hardened product is shiny and is very polishable. This product is produced in special 215 ml cartridges with a 2:1 bi-axial quantity. The glue and hardener are pre-dosed in the cartridge which, once inserted in the proper gun, with the special mixer fixed on top, allows the correct extrusion and mixing of the product. It requires use of special M200XMR Cartridge Gun, and is suitable for use outdoors.

Video: TPB Tech Porcelain-based Compact Surface Includes Built-in Induction Heating

Posted on 07 June 2016 by cradmin

Here’s a new take on countertops that we haven’t seen yet, which is rare indeed. In this video put out by TPBarcelona, the company’s TPB Tech product is featured. This porcelain-based material has all of the great properties associated with similar products, such as very high heat tolerance, great durability and scratch resistance, near impervious to staining and etching and UV stability. However, the one really amazing feature is that it also includes built in induction heating allowing users to cook right on the surface. The locations of the “burners” are noted with laser light and temperature controls are built in, as well. Because induction heating only works to heat conductive materials (i.e. metal – and quite quickly at that), and non-conductive materials (plastics, human skin, etc.) are not affected. As such, the areas where cooking takes place are cool to the touch and will not damage non-conductive items coming in contact with them.

This video may very well be showing us the future of the kitchen that is taking place right now (in this case, primarily in Spain).

Fabricating Thin Porcelain Panel Countertops

Posted on 30 October 2014 by cradmin

This video depicts countertop fabrication of thin porcelain panels (the “PLANE” product by StonePeak Ceramic.) The tile-thin panel is mitered to form drop edges, and glued up manually using hand clamps and tape. The video does not show any substrate being used under the material, but because it is so thin, it stands to reason some sort of backing material or underlay will be used when it is installed. However, the video only shows the fabrication and does not touch on the installation process.

If you have worked with this material, we would love to hear about your experiences, so please post a reply here.

New Cosentino Dekton Product Makes U.S. Debut

Posted on 21 October 2013 by cradmin

Cosentino Dekton NaoneCosentino has been focusing much of its recent efforts on its roll out of the new Dekton surfacing product. The product, has been the buzz of the hard surfaces industry since a sneak peak was given of the product at the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) earlier this year. According to the company, it is the most significant new product launch for Cosentino in over a decade, representing more than 22,000 hours of research and development and investment of $172 million. The product is made from a blend of raw materials used in the production of refined glass, porcelain, and quartz, and uses a new proprietary process deemed “Particle Sintering Technology” (PST), which the company describes as an accelerated version of the metamorphic rock formation process that occurs in nature, where rock is subjected to intense heat and pressure over thousands of years. To manufacture Dekton, Cosentino has reduced this process to four hours with extreme heat and pressure. The result is an ultra-compact surface with UV resistance, high strength and performance, high resistance to impact, scratches and abrasion and very low water absorption. It also provides thermal shock resistance against heat, frost and thawing. These properties make it suitable for interior countertop and flooring applications as well as exterior applications in virtually any climate.

At a recent press event and exhibition opening at the New York Center for Architecture, Cosentino announced the global launch of its new Dekton surfacing product, as well as the construction of a state-of-the-art factory at the company’s manufacturing headquarters in Spain. It will reportedly be offered in 56- by 126-in. slabs, in thicknesses from 1.2- to 3-cm, and in several finishes, and will be available in the United States in December. Dekton is being manufactured in three collections containing 14 different colors total. The Solids collection includes three lighter colors, Halo, Zenith, Ariane, and four darker colors, Spectra, Sirius, Domoos and Ananke. The Natural Collection includes four colors that feature subtle swirls and veining, Danae, Sirocco, Aura and Naone (pictured here). The Tech Collection, which has an industrial look of browns and grays, includes the colors Kadum, Keranium and Strato.
