Posted on 24 June 2015 by cradmin

Cosentino Dekton BoreaDekton by Cosentino, an ultra-compact sintered surface made from glass, porcelain and quartz, added eight new color option to its line up, bringing the total number of colors available to 23. These new colors come include two marble-like color (Enzo, which is white with dark veining, and Kelya, which is dark with light veining ) in the Natural Looks collection. It also includes three colors in the Solids Collection:  Ventus, a lighter gray, Korus, a darker gray, and Galema, which is sort of a grayish/olive color. The remaining three colors are Keon, a gray color with subtle swirls in the Tech Collection, and two colors in the Wild Collection, both of which have stripe-like veining – Borea (pictured here) and Makai (a very light gray color with darker stripe-like veins. These new introductions are in addition to a launch of five additional colors (Aura, Edora, Irok, Kairos and Vegha) earlier this year.

The material is suitable for both interior and exterior uses, including countertops, vanities, wet walls/showers, flooring and cladding. The material is made using a proprietary process called “particle sintering technology” or PST that uses heat and pressure to provide the material with UV resistance for color stability, high strength, and resistance to impacts, scratching and abrasion, as well as low water absorption and thermal shock resistance. All of these colors will be available in large format slabs of 56 by 126 in. and in three thicknesses: 0.8cm, 1.2cm and 2cm.

Tooling and Fabrication of Crystallized Glass

Posted on 25 June 2014 by cradmin

With the continued interest we are seeing in the crystallized glass category, and considering there isn’t a lot of good information out there on the subject, we decided to share this video with you by Alpha Professional Tools, which shows the processing of crystallized glass using their suggested tooling and methods. While, obviously the company’s tools/tooling are being used in this video, there are likely other brands that would work, but this can provide a starting point for the types of equipment and tooling you would likely want to use if fabricating crystallized glass materials.

Dekton Ultracompact Sintered Surface Performance Tests

Posted on 10 June 2014 by cradmin

There has been a lot of interest shown in the new Dekton ultracompact sintered surfacing product introduced by Cosentino back in December, so when we ran across this video showing some “performance tests” on the new material, it caught our interest. While this video, which is admittedly put out by Cosentino, is obviously meant to put the material in a good light, it does show the Dekton material being subjected to some rather harsh treatment, including having a torch put to it, scratching, spray painting and setting a hot pan on the surface. And, the material seems to hold up pretty good. But don’t take my word for it, see it for yourself, and let us know what you think.

And feel free to suggest we post a video you have made or come across by sending us a link at info@countertopresource.com.

Wilsonart Now Exclusive Antimicrobial Eos Distributor in 38 States

Posted on 19 December 2013 by cradmin

Wilsonart and EOS Surfaces announced that Wilsonart is now the exclusive distributor of Antimicrobial Cupron Enhanced EOS Surfaces in 38 states throughout the U.S., according to a release on Business Wire on Dec. 18. The copper-enhanced material kills greater than 99.9 percent of Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria within two hours of exposure and is registered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for Public Health Claims.

“Cupron Enhanced EOS Surfaces is the first synthetic hard surface proven to kill specific disease-causing bacteria, including Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA),” stated Joseph Elia, Wilsonart Solid Surface Sales Manager. “With the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimating that health care-acquired infections (HAIs) affect 2 million individuals and result in about 100,000 deaths annually, killing bacteria on frequently touched surfaces can play an important role in managing risks associated with microbial control. With Cupron Enhanced EOS Surfaces, our sales force will be able to provide expanded options and substantial healthcare solutions to health care organizations, architects and health care consultants among others.”

“Joining forces with Wilsonart gives us expanded distribution channels for a product we anticipate will make a real difference in reducing bioburden in healthcare facilities and could become a standard of care for the industry,” noted Ken Trinder, CEO and President at EOS Surfaces, LLC. “With our state-of-the-art facility in Norfolk, Va., producing the product and Wilsonart’s warehousing system, fleet of delivery trucks and the largest sales representative force in the country, it is win/win for both companies.”

Antimicrobial Cupron Enhanced EOS Surfaces, which are akin to solid surface, can be used in a wide range of applications, including countertops, nurses’ stations and tables.
