Tile Backsplash Ideas for Showrooms

Posted on 23 February 2013 by cradmin

It’s not always possible to sell every customer on that full height granite or coved solid surface backsplash, no matter how hard one might try, which often makes tile the go-to product. And for tile countertops, a tile backsplash is only natural. Many types of tile also make a great option. Not only are there very durable, sanitary options available for this aspect of the countertop that generally doesn’t receive a lot of wear, but there are just a lot of tile options overall.

Tile comes in numerous textures, colors, materials and patterns. Plus, it can be laid in any number of unique ways that can really set off an otherwise hum-drum kitchen and bring a uniqueness that may not be there otherwise. There are even many choices available when it comes to the grout and groutlines that can help make for a one-of-a-kind kitchen.

As such, we ran across a nice video put out by Fireplaces & Granite, of North Carolina, that shows dozens of ideas on how to showcase tile backsplashes in different and inventive ways that might make the sale that much easier. Hopefully, you can gather some ideas that will benefit your own operation by giving it a view:

NKBA Survey Shows Suprising Trends

Posted on 20 September 2012 by cradmin

A report was recently published on the Woodworking Network website issued by the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) that outlines the results of a survey of its members. The survey sought out the top trends in kitchens and baths, and some of the findings were a bit surprising.

Among those tied strictly to the countertop industry were 1) the growing usage of glass as a backsplash material – a surprising 52 percent of respondants said they used the material in their designs; and 2) an increase in the use of solid surface in both the kitchen and bath, rising to 30 percent of those taking the survey saying they are specifying it for their projects. Subsequently, both granite and quartz surfacing dropped (although just slightly), but still lead the pack when it comes to the most popular surfaces specified.

Other trends discussed were faucetry, color schemes, cabinetry and more. The full report is available here.

clé Introduces Handmade Metallic Tiles

Posted on 10 September 2012 by cradmin

clé introduces metallic tiles in porcelain, ceramic and limestone that have been painted, glazed, and printed with the glimmer of silver, gold, iron, platinum and copper. The tiles are produced by different international tile artists. Along with gold, the Byzantina rectangle series by Italian artist Adriano Ricchetti of Il Monile, includes iron, platinum, and silver.

Brenda Bates creates her Welbeck tile in her potter’s studio in Cornwall, England. Fascinated by aquatic life in the Celtic Sea, Bates has created the Coast Collection, immortalizing sea stars in hand made tile, delicately painted in 24k gold and platinum. Her Platinum Collection is a study in abstraction, using metallics to define irregular shapes. The weight of the precious metals against the delicate translucent glaze causes the random crackled surface.

The clé Classic Tile Collection has taken the traditional material of porcelain and rendered it modern with faux metal finishes of oxidized steel, iron and copper.

The Metallic Porcelain series allows for installation of a tile where weight or temperature would be problematic for metal. The tile slabs are 13 by 40 inches and can be installed on floors and walls, indoors and out.

The Dutch artist Hanneke Steenmetz silk screens her Shakespeare inspired graphics onto limestone tile for her Studio H.  All of her images are available in gold, silver and copper.
