Werthan, LLC is a full-range countertop fabrication business founded by Jeremy Werthan in 2002, but the values that prompted him to start this company were instilled by several generations of family dating back to 1868. At that time, Meier Werthan started his first business selling rags out of a cart in Nashville. This developed into burlap bag manufacturing and eventually included plastic and paper bags alongside two separate ventures dealing auto parts and printing checks.
Jeremy Werthan began his career as an investment banker, but he found his work unsatisfying and without substance. When he discovered his kitchen countertop needed to be replaced, he couldn’t believe the high prices he was quoted. After putting some thought into it, Werthan decided that it made great financial sense, and he purchased a container of blank granite slabs from China and fabrication equipment at the Coverings trade show.
After getting burnt on his deal for the granite slabs from China, Werthan made a point of getting to know local suppliers, and he eventually found experienced fabricators to work for him and a decent base of customers. In 2006, he took his first steps into automating the shop when he purchased a robotic saw and water jet and a pair of line polishers.
Werthan, LLC, located in Nashville, Tenn., primarily fabricates granite countertops for luxury residences, but the company also deals with tract-housing developers and commercial businesses. Recently, Werthan has expanded into solid surface and quartz.
