Fabricator Profile: Qualey Granite & Quartz Cares About Community

downloadQualey Granite & Quartz in Veazie, Maine, is not only invested in its customers but also its community. The company was founded in 2003 by Matt and Laurie Qualey to supplement their landscaping business, and today, it is one of the top fabricators in the region, claiming the “largest indoor inventory of slabs in Northern New England.”

When the Qualeys first started, they had a 1,000-sq.-ft. facility that served as both a shop and showroom, and they were using a porta-potty as their primary bathroom at work. Now, however, Qualey Granite & Quartz includes a 55,000-sq.-ft. facility just outside Bangor, which has a 5,000-sq.-ft. showroom, a 10,000-sq.-ft. shop and a 15,000-sq.-ft. warehouse, and they still have room for further expansion. Although the company was originally focused on retail residential business, it has expanded into commercial projects.

The Qualeys have always believed in community, and one of the ways they show support and provide help is by helping the Human Society match rescued dogs into loving homes. For each Like the company receives on its Facebook page, $1 is donated to the Bangor Humane Society, and the couple has adopted several rescue dogs themselves.

Although Laurie is no longer involved in the day-to-day operations, she continues to provide community-outreach services on behalf of the company. This community outreach obviously puts the business in a good light. Not only does she serve on the executive board of the Bangor Humane Society, but she also founded her own charity: Rescue Dogs Rock!

Qualey Granite & Quartz is also committed to keeping up with technological advances in the industry for the purposes of efficiency, sales and customer support. They have moved away from print advertising in favor of television and electronic media, including a state-of-the-art website.
