Fabricator Profile: Distinctive Marble & Granite

dmg2-300x199When Chris Schnetzler, owner of Distinctive Marble & Granite in Plain City, Ohio, recognized that his business was rapidly growing, he knew he had to take action to ensure it remained stable and efficient. In order to increase efficiency while being able to meet the demand created by all the new clients, Schnetzler hired Chip Gleine as his new general manager.

Sales increased at Distinctive Marble & Granite by more than 50 percent in 2012 after focusing on growth, but operational issues were affecting turnaround time and, thus, customer satisfaction. After a 10-month period of analysis and implementing procedural and operational changes, job time dropped to three to five days, which allowed the company to once again focus on sales.

The most impressive facts about Distinctive Marble & Granite are that its growth did not rely on advertising, and its increase in efficiency did not rely on technology. Sales were largely driven by encouraging customers to talk about their experiences with the company. Growth was primarily accomplished through word of mouth, which is crucial when business is 85 percent residential builders and retail.

Recently, Schnetzler made a move for further expansion by acquiring another fabrication business located nearby: Marble & Granite Works. It was at this time that the company relocated from Powell, Ohio, to Plain City, and it now serves customers throughout the Greater Columbus and Central Ohio areas. Product offerings include natural stone and quartz surfacing.
