Here is a video we came across with some good tips for spraying a glass-fiber reinforced concrete face coat on concrete countertops. Unfortunately the author, “nvconcretedesignnsd,” doesn’t give us much information about himself, but he does offer some good insight into the process. Those working with GFRC in countertop applications may want to give this one a look:

KBIS, IBS to Co-locate in 2014, Tie-in with StonExpo/Surfaces in 2015

Posted on 24 January 2013 by cradmin

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) announced an agreement to co-locate the International Builders’ Show (IBS) and the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) in Las Vegas beginning in February 2014. In 2015, they will also tie-in with the StonExpo/Surfaces show.

The two events will remain separate and distinct shows held simultaneously at the Las Vegas Convention Center through 2016, creating Design and Construction Week.

“This new format allows exhibitors to reach a full range of design and construction professionals who buy, specify and influence the products that go into American homes,” said NAHB Chairman Barry Rutenberg, a home builder from Gainesville, Fla. “For attendees, it means access to two expansive trade show floors and hundreds of additional suppliers to meet.”

“Two shows, two associations and one place to see and connect with every aspect of residential construction and remodeling,” said John Morgan, NKBA 2013 president and president of Morgan Pinnacle, a manufacturer’s representative for cabinetry and technology brands.

The new mega-event will be held Feb. 4-6, 2014 in Las Vegas, with each show occupying a separate hall. Kitchen and bath brands that have participated in both shows can choose to exhibit in the KBIS or IBS hall. One pass will provide access to both exhibits. NKBA and NAHB will continue to produce separate educational programming and special events. Future show dates are Jan 20-22, 2015 and Jan 19-21, 2016 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Design and Construction Week 2014 is expected to draw more than 75,000 specifiers, builders, dealers and suppliers and 2,000 exhibiting brands, according to the organizations.

In 2015, Design and Construction Week will expand further with the addition of StonExpo/Surfaces, Jan. 21-23 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. Shuttle buses will run between the convention centers to allow approximately 25,000 additional attendees to tour all three exhibits.

Profile: United Marble Fabricators Knows Its Clientele, Where to Look, and How to Please Them

Posted on 22 January 2013 by cradmin

United Marble Fabricators (UMF) focuses on custom stone and tile work for high-end homes in the Boston area, and works to get involved with architects and design firms early in the process. Its typical customers are professionals that may not have much time, but know what they want and count on designers and builders to take care of the details. UMF can take part in projects as early as the planning phase and choosing the materials all the way to installation, and handle everything in between. This allows the company to better manage the project for the best results, and also makes the projects easier for the builders it works with. It also plays to its strong points of skill, focus on what it does best and flexibility…

ISFA, IWF Announce Expanded Countertops Partnership

Posted on 21 January 2013 by cradmin

The International Surface Fabricators Association (ISFA) and the International Woodworking Fair (IWF) announced the formation of a partnership geared toward increasing the focus on the countertop industry for the 2014 IWF show. The partnership includes an agreement in which ISFA will work with IWF to develop a full countertop educational track for the show and a “Countertop Pavilion” which will be co-sponsored by ISFA.

The educational track will include six educational sessions geared toward the countertop industry, as well as continuing the full day Countertop Symposium that ISFA has put on for the past two IWF expos.

“With so many laminate and solid surface fabricators already attending the International Woodworking Fair it makes sense to expand upon that and open the show up to fabricators of all countertop materials,” said Rick Hannigan IWF 2014 Chairman. “The new educational track will include sessions geared toward laminate, solid surface, quartz surfacing, natural stone, concrete and other countertop materials.”

The new Countertop Pavilion is designed to bring new suppliers of materials, tooling, machinery, equipment and other products and services together in one area of the show for the convenience of those in the countertop industry. As part of the new focus, ISFA Associate Members who have not previously exhibited at the show will be afforded an exhibitor discount if they exhibit in the pavilion and all ISFA members will get discount admission to the show.

Additionally, ISFA will have its 2014 Annual Member Meeting at IWF and will also host a networking event for those in the surfacing industry.

“We have worked closely with IWF for the past two shows and expanding upon our established relationship will provide additional benefits for our membership and for the entire surfacing industry,” said Mike Langenderfer, ISFA President. “Educational and networking events are a big part of what ISFA offers, and solidifying IWF as an outlet for increasing those programs is another opportunity to bring together the industry and improve the quality of the products fabricators offer.”

IWF 2014 will be held August 20 to 23, 2014, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.
